Julie Moulin-Molenaar has been part of the Accent Home Care team for over two and a half years, and her journey into aged care has been shaped by care, resilience and a genuine love of people.
Growing up in France, Julie was raised by her grandparents. That early connection left a lasting impression and sparked a desire to one day work with older people. While completing a hospitality degree in France, Julie travelled widely, spending time in Australia, Canada and Norway as part of her studies. Australia soon felt like home, and it was here that she met her husband and settled in Melbourne.
Before coming to Accent Home Care, Julie spent many years working in hospitality, including five years as a hotel reception manager. During this time she worked through the challenges of COVID, often managing evening shifts on her own and supporting guests through difficult situations. This experience strengthened her calm approach, problem-solving skills and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
After her hospitality career, Julie worked in employment services, supporting up to 100 job seekers at a time. While the role was rewarding, she was looking for something more secure and meaningful. Aged care had always been in the back of her mind, and Accent Home Care gave her the chance to bring her skills and compassion together.
Julie began as a Care Partner and quickly built strong relationships with her clients. She took the time to really know them - not only taking the time to discover what each client needed regarding care and support, but even getting to know their families and learning the best time of day to make a phone call. These small details mattered, and they helped clients feel seen and supported.
Like many in the sector, Julie and her colleagues have found the transition from Home Care Packages to Support at Home challenging at times. The frequent changes have been frustrating for clients and staff alike. Julie understands this frustration and meets it with patience and empathy, knowing that families are doing their best within the limits of government funding and changing rules and regulations.
What clients value most about Accent Home Care, Julie believes, is the personal touch. People are never just a number. The team works closely together, helping one another and always looking for ways to get the best outcomes for clients.
Julie describes her work as rewarding and says compliments from clients truly make her day. One heartfelt letter from a client named Melissa moved her to tears and reminded her why this work matters so much.
After taking maternity leave, Julie has recently returned to work three days a week as an Interim Care Partner. Accent Home Care has supported her with a gradual return to work, something she is deeply grateful for.
Becoming a mother to her daughter Iris has given Julie a new perspective on life. Julie brings care, connection and quiet confidence to everything she does. Her presence makes a genuine difference, and we are grateful to have her as part of the Accent Home Care family.
